Gary Glitter bankrupt after failing to pay abuse victim £500,000
- Gary Glitter, real name Paul Francis Gadd, was declared bankrupt last month at the Torquay and Newton Abbot County Court after failing to pay £508,000 in damages to a woman he raped when she was 12.
- In 2015, Glitter was jailed for 16 years for the abuse of the victim and two other girls between 1975 and 1980, and the High Court awarded the woman damages last year to cover lost earnings and suffering.
- Slater and Gordon, the woman's lawyers, successfully launched an enforcement action, and Jonathan Metzer previously told the court that Glitter's abuse had a "dramatic and terrible impact" on her education, work and personal relationships.
- The High Court awarded the victim £508,800 in damages, including £381,000 for lost earnings and £7,800 for future therapy, after hearing she had been unable to work for decades due to the trauma caused by the repeated abuse.
- Despite being released from prison in February 2023 after serving half of his sentence, Glitter was recalled to jail weeks later for breaching his licensing conditions, and Richard Scorer of Slater & Gordon stated that Gadd's refusal to cooperate and lack of remorse should be considered in any future parole applications, as he remains a risk to the public.
