Gabon withdraws from EU fishing agreement after 18 Years
Eighteen years after signing a key fisheries partnership with the European Union, Gabon has announced its intention to unilaterally withdraw from the agreement, citing an imbalance in benefits and growing concerns over resource exploitation.
In Gabon, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema decided on Wednesday 4 June to unilaterally denounce the 2007 fisheries agreement with the European Union. Gabon believes that the agreement is not beneficial to it. The President therefore instructed his government to notify its decision to the European Union while leaving a door open to negotiation.
