Funeral services for H.K. Matthews set Friday - The Brewton Standard

A long-time Brewton resident and Civil Rights icon died last week at the age of 97. H.K. Matthews died Aug. 18, 2025 at his home in Brewton. Known as a civil rights pioneer, Matthews moved to Brewton from Pensacola, Fla., during the 1970s. Matthews was born in Snow Hill, Ala., in 1928 and moved to Pensacola in the 1950s.
