Heartbreaking Tributes Paid at Funeral of Jamey Carney
Mourners remembered the mother-of-one as a kind, adventurous woman as Gardaí continued investigating her violent death.
On Wednesday, mourners gathered at Mary Cathedral in Killarney for the funeral of Jamey Carney, remembered by parish priest Kieran Brien as an "adventurous" and "determined" person who brought a "ray of sunshine" to those around her.
Garda launched a murder investigation after Carney, 43, was found dead by her daughter at their Muckross Road home on July 7, with postmortem findings confirming she died a "violent death by suffocation."
Kieran Brien recalled Carney moved to Ireland from Westchester, New York, five years ago, describing it as "the best decision of her life," while addressing her 13-year-old daughter Michaela as "the light of her life."
A person of interest, believed to be Carney's boyfriend, was detained in Jordan after fleeing via Dublin Airport, though officials indicate potential legal battles regarding extradition to Ireland could take several months.
Investigators continue working with international law enforcement partners to progress the case, after Garda announced last week they were "satisfied that a person of interest in this investigation left the jurisdiction" on Tuesday.
