PAKISTAN, JUL 13 – The Federal Constabulary will have nationwide jurisdiction with new recruitment and command by Police Service officers to enhance internal security and counter-terrorism capabilities.
- On May 14, 2023, the federal government approved plans to transform the Frontier Constabulary into a nationwide Federal Constabulary with authority across all provinces and territories.
- This decision followed the cabinet's endorsement of a presidential ordinance to extend the Frontier Constabulary's jurisdiction countrywide and formalize the transformation via legal amendments.
- The reorganized force will conduct recruitment nationwide, set up regional offices throughout Pakistan, and will be led by officials belonging to the Police Service of Pakistan.
- The Frontier Constabulary, previously focused mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and responsible for law enforcement beyond civilian police capacity, deployed many personnel outside the Supreme Court on May 14.
