TEXAS HILL COUNTRY, JUL 16 – Catholic Charities coordinate nationwide fundraising and supply drives to assist Texas Hill Country flood survivors after 132 deaths and over 160 missing, officials reported.
- Across the country, faithful Catholics are responding, with relief efforts focused in Texas and supported by dioceses from Boston to Baton Rouge, in response to July 4 flash floods.
- Earlier this month, flash flooding in Central Texas killed an estimated 132 people and left 160 missing in Kerr County, according to The Associated Press.
- In Dallas, Bishop Edward J. Burns scheduled an emergency second collection for July 19–20 to support survivors’ needs, following a July 12–13 special collection by Bishop Gregory Kelly of Tyler, Texas.
- In the affected communities, relief supplies and shelter are being established, with the Red Cross setting up a church gym shelter for 10 families after July 13.
- Beyond immediate aid, long-term restoration plans are underway, with volunteers addressing housing, food, and water needs after 38,000 homes were flooded, according to a Cotality analysis.
