- Wisconsin residents face record Fourth of July cookout costs this year, with the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation survey estimating a $75.50 grocery bill for 10 people, the highest since the Marketbasket survey began in 2013.
- Higher fuel and fertilizer costs are driving these increases, while the American Farm Bureau Federation estimates a lower national average of $73.82, up 4% from last year.
- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, ground beef in Wisconsin reached $7.30 per pound, a 23% increase from 2025. Fresh strawberries and ice cream also rose more than 25% each.
- WFBF Senior Director of Public Relations Cassie Sonnentag noted increases across many food items on the shopping list. Wisconsin Beef Council Executive Director Tammy Vaassen advised that ground beef remains a versatile protein despite higher prices.
- Farmers continue to face rising input costs while receiving less than six cents of the food dollar after expenses, operating as price takers rather than price makers in the broader market.
