Four Naxalites Killed in Gunfight with Security Forces in Jharkhand
Police recovered two AK-47 rifles and intensified searches after the encounter killed four Maoists in a border forest area, officials said.
- On Friday, security forces killed four Maoists in the Batuka forest area of Jharkhand's Hazaribag district following a tip-off. Barkagaon SDPO Pawan Kumar said, "Four Maoists have been killed in the gunfight. Their identities are being established."
- The squad of Shahdeo Mahto was the last remaining active Maoist group operating in the Hazaribagh-Chatra region, having allegedly been active for years across the border areas of Chatra, Hazaribagh, and Latehar.
- Joint operations involving CRPF, CoBRA commandos, and Jharkhand Jaguar units recovered four weapons, including two AK-47 rifles. CoBRA commandos are elite CRPF units specialized in jungle warfare to counter Naxal insurgency.
- Earlier this week, four security personnel were injured in a separate fierce exchange with a squad led by Misir Besra, considered the "supreme commander" of the eastern regional bureau, in West Singhbhum.
- Police have intensified search operations across the area to locate remaining Maoists, while The Centre has informed state governments that no districts are currently classified as Naxal violence-affected, more than five decades after Left Wing Extremism originated in India.
