Former Sheetz President & CEO Dies
Stephen G. Sheetz led the company’s expansion into fuel sales and Made-to-Order food, growing Sheetz to over 800 stores across seven states, the company said.
- On January 5, 2026, Sheetz Inc. said Stephen G. Sheetz, former President and CEO and former Chairman, died Sunday night at UPMC Altoona, age 77.
- After graduating from Penn State University in 1969, Stephen G. Sheetz rose through operations and helped grow Sheetz to 100 store locations by 1983.
- During his tenure he introduced Made-to-Order menu items, added gasoline sales, expanded Sheetz into new states, and the company now operates over 800 store locations with more than 27,000 employees.
- Travis Sheetz and Joe Sheetz praised his leadership and mentorship, saying he shaped nearly every aspect of Sheetz; he is survived by his wife Nancy, daughters Megan Sheetz and Nicole Sheetz Frith, and seven grandchildren.
- Beyond the business, he and Nancy Sheetz founded the Sheetz Fellows Program in 2009 and the Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, earning recognition from Penn State University in 2010.
