The former winger played 608 NHL games and later coached youth teams in three cities, leaving a lasting mark on hockey.
Former NHL player Kyle Calder died Monday at 47 following a brief illness. His daughter, Madison Calder, announced the passing of the Manville, Alberta, native in a social media post.
During his 1999–2009 professional career, Calder played 608 regular-season and playoff games as a winger, primarily for Chicago, while also playing for Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Anaheim.
Since 2018, Calder coached youth teams in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Boston, and Blackhawks chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz noted, "Kyle approached life with the same passion, intensity and incredible dedication that defined his play."
"Never in a million years would I have thought this day would come," Madison Calder wrote on Instagram, while the NHL Alumni Association memorialized him for his "loyalty, toughness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment."
Colleagues remembered his "teddy bear heart," describing the former winger as a "protector" and "loyal friend" who continued sharing his love for hockey with all generations of players.
