Former Lok Sabha Secretary General, constitution expert Subhash Kashyap passes away
The former Lok Sabha secretary general wrote more than 100 books and served Parliament for over 37 years, officials said.
On Thursday, former Lok Sabha Secretary General and constitutional expert Subhash C. Kashyap passed away at his Sainik Farm residence in New Delhi at age 97 following a prolonged illness.
Serving as Lok Sabha Secretary General from 1983 to 1990, Kashyap authored over 100 books including 'Our Constitution: An Introduction to India's Constitution and Constitutional Law' and 'Constitution of India: A Handbook for Students' that became standard texts.
Recognized with the Padma Bhushan, Kashyap served as a prominent member of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, strengthening India's constitutional framework.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep pain at losing a foremost constitutional scholar, while President Droupadi Murmu noted Kashyap enriched the study of the constitution and parliamentary system with his erudition.
Recently, Kashyap served on the high-level committee for 'One Nation, One Election' chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, marking his continued engagement with constitutional reform until his passing.
