Former Chretien chief of staff Eddie Goldenberg has died
The lawyer and policy adviser helped shape the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and was invested into the Order of Canada in 2014.
Eddie Goldenberg, the former chief of staff to former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, died Thursday after a battle with cancer, Global Public Affairs CEO Randy Pettipas confirmed.
Originally from Montreal, Goldenberg served as a lawyer and senior policy adviser for a decade before becoming Chrétien's chief of staff and an elder statesman in the Liberal party.
Goldenberg contributed to drafting the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and received the Order of Canada in 2014 in recognition of his decades of public service contributions.
Even in his final months, Goldenberg remained active in professional work, collaborating with former Governor General David Johnston on initiatives to attract researchers to Canada.
His legacy encompasses decades of high-level federal policy development, with ceremonies at Rideau Hall previously marking his recognition as a cornerstone figure in Canadian governance.
