- Kianuko Louie, age 35, who previously worked as an educator at Kootenay River Secondary, entered a guilty plea on May 5 in Creston to two charges related to sexual offenses involving students during the 2022-23 academic year.
- In September 2023, Louie faced six charges following an RCMP probe sparked by complaints from two students; the accusations involve sexual assault, child pornography possession, extortion, and criminal harassment.
- Louie, who belongs to the Yaqan Nukiy community, was actively involved in the 2021 effort to rename the school from Prince Charles Secondary to Kootenay River Secondary.
