Former B.C. lawyer planned murder of his client, Crown tells court
The accused planned the murder for over a week and received more than $780,000 from the victim, according to Crown attorney statements in B.C. Supreme Court.
- At the B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, Crown attorney Ann Katrine Saettler said Rogelio 'Butch' Bagabuyo bought a tote matching the one used to hold Mohd Abdullah’s body, supporting the Crown’s theory that the murder was planned.
- A forensic accountant testified Mohd Abdullah transferred substantial funds to Rogelio 'Butch' Bagabuyo, and Ann Katrine Saettler said Bagabuyo delayed returning money and was living off funds he promised to keep safe.
- To show premeditation, Saettler pointed to video of Bagabuyo buying a Home Depot tote matching the bin holding Abdullah's body, gaps in backyard cameras March 10–16, and use of plastic sheeting, garrote, ratchet straps, and an unsuspecting neighbour.
- Rogelio 'Butch' Bagabuyo was arrested on March 18, 2022, the day after the body was discovered, and has been out on bail since July 12, 2023, with his lawyer confirming he admits to killing Abdullah but claims it was manslaughter.
- The Crown's theory holds that Rogelio 'Butch' Bagabuyo decided on March 11, 2025, he could not continue to fool Abdullah, and a first-degree murder conviction carries life without parole for 25 years, while manslaughter has no mandatory sentence; the B.C. Law Society says Bagabuyo is no longer practicing and a custodian was appointed in May 2022.

VANCOUVER — The Crown attorney in the first-degree murder trial of a former Kamloops lawyer says the accused methodically planned the murder of his client for more than a week. Ann Katrine Saettler told a B.C.
