Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in Texas crash involving 17 vehicles that killed 5 people
- Late Thursday night around 11:23 p.m., a severe multi-vehicle crash involving 17 vehicles and a semi-truck occurred in North Austin around the 3100 block of Interstate 35 southbound near Parmer Lane, resulting in 5 fatalities.
- Crews initially responded to a call about a traffic incident, with multiple agencies including ATCEMS, APD, and AFD responding to the scene.
- Three adults with minor injuries were taken to Seton Medical Center, while two adults with severe injuries were transported to Dell Seton, two people were transported to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center for serious injuries, and one more person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
- Three children were transported to Dell Children's Hospital, including two with minor injuries and one with possibly life-threatening injuries.
- ATCEMS Captain Christa Stedman stated that all patients in critical condition were removed from the scene in about 40 minutes, and an investigation is currently underway, with drivers asked to avoid I-35 and the I-35 service road.
