RAHIM YAR KHAN, PUNJAB, PAKISTAN, AUG 1 – Punjab Police launched a large-scale operation after armed bandits killed five Elite Force officers in retaliation for a police encounter, with two others injured in the attack.
- On Thursday night, around 40 bandits attacked the Sheikhani Police Check Point in Rahim Yar Khan district, martyring five police personnel and injuring two others.
- Amid claims of vengeance, the attack was linked to the killing of notorious bandit Shahzore Kamalani-Jatoi, with dacoits demanding his body’s return for a captive officer.
- During the exchange, one dacoit was killed, and seven officers were on duty at the checkpost, police led by DPO Irfan Ali Samo sealed all entry-exit points.
- Following the Sheikhani checkpoint attack, the force vowed to continue operations in the Katcha area, with IGP Dr Usman Anwar instructing DPO Rahim Yar Khan to arrest the attackers.
- In Rahim Yar Khan, authorities intensified efforts as police and communities mourned the fallen, with a search operation launched to support families of the fallen while the province remains on high alert.
