Fiji Dazzle Early and Wales Finish Strong in Nations Championship Win in Cardiff
Just under 16,000 tickets have been sold, and the upper Ninian Stand will stay closed for the Nations Championship fixture.
Wales defeated Fiji 39-24 in the Nations Championship on Saturday at Cardiff City Stadium, with an estimated crowd of 16,000 spectators. The victory marks consecutive wins for Wales for the first time in three years.
World Rugby sanctioned Fiji to host Nations Championship fixtures in the UK to generate revenue, though the build-up was overshadowed by a players' pay dispute which the Welsh Rugby Union only settled on Wednesday.
Racking up 469 meters to Wales' 66, the Fijians dominated early, but Wales finished strong with tries from Jac Morgan, Rhys Carre, Josh Adams, Ryan Elias, and Eddie James to secure the bonus point victory.
Cardiff City Stadium was 'transformed' to highlight Fijian culture, featuring an authentic Fijian Village outside, with tickets priced between £25 and £65 for adults. The upper Ninian Stand remained closed due to ticket demand.
Next weekend, Fiji hosts England at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool, while Wales travels to face Argentina in Santa Fe and world champions South Africa in Durban.
Wales beat Fiji 39-24 in Cardiff for their entry into the Championship of Nations, winning their third straight win for the first time in nearly three years.
