FIFA Opens Bidding for 2030 and 2034 World Cup Media Rights Covering US and Puerto Rico
FIFA wants flexible linear and streaming bids as advertisers and media companies chase a World Cup package that drew 13.5 million viewers per match in 2026.
On Thursday, FIFA launched an invitation to tender for media rights in the United States and Puerto Rico for the 2030 World Cup, with an option to secure the 2034 edition and proposals due by midnight November 19.
Fox paid $485 million and NBCUniversal $600 million for 2026 rights, establishing a high bar; FIFA Chief Business Officer Romy Gai is prioritizing flexibility to attract both streamers and traditional broadcasters.
Netflix, YouTube, Apple, and Amazon Prime Video are reportedly evaluating bids, with rights estimates ranging between $1.5 billion and $2 billion based on recent market analysis.
Potential bidders face logistical concerns for the 2030 and 2034 tournaments hosted outside North America, though Gai dismissed these worries: "I'm sure that we will have every day matches that will be available in the right time zone for the U.S."
Following the November 19 deadline, a FIFA contingent will visit the United States around Thanksgiving to conduct in-person meetings with media companies before finalizing a media partner selection by year-end.
