FIFA announces Super Bowl-style World Cup final halftime show featuring Madonna, Shakira and BTS
The first World Cup final halftime show will support a $100 million education fund and feature a Chris Martin-curated lineup, FIFA said.
- Global Citizen announced Thursday that Madonna, Shakira, and K-pop group BTS will headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
- Coldplay's Chris Martin is curating the 11-minute spectacle, following FIFA's experiments with halftime entertainment at the 2025 Club World Cup. Martin hand-selected the performers alongside Sesame Street characters Elmo and Kermit in a promotional video.
- Proceeds from the show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aiming to raise $100 million for football and education access worldwide. The fund has already raised more than $30 million through World Cup ticket sales.
- Madonna and Shakira previously headlined Super Bowl halftime shows in 2012 and 2020, respectively. BTS returned to music earlier this year with their sixth studio album, 'ARIRANG,' marking their first project following military service.
- The 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring 48 teams, kicks off June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. FIFA president Gianni Infantino stated the halftime show will be "a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.
