The National Day was marked, as every year, by episodes of urban violence and in particular mortars thrown at law enforcement forces, the national police said on Tuesday.

The security measures will remain supported until Tuesday, with 65,000 security forces deployed Monday night throughout France to frame the festivities, the Ministry of Interior announced.

On the night from Monday to Tuesday, as many as 176 people were arrested in Paris alone. Police admit that this year's celebrations saw more incidents of violence than in previous years.
