44,000 Cans of Walmart-Brand Fruit Cocktail Recalled over Possible Lead Contamination
The recall covers about 44,000 cans, and the FDA said lead exposure can cause short-term health problems.
On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration designated a voluntary recall of Walmart's Great Value Fruit Cocktail in Fruit Juice from Concentrate as Class II, citing potential lead contamination affecting over 44,000 cans.
California-Based supplier Pacific Coast Producers initiated the recall on October 1 after tests revealed elevated lead levels, a heavy metal often traced to contaminated orchard soil or boiled-down juice concentrates.
The recalled 15-ounce cans carry lot code 6FCB 04 C2263, UPC 078742369570, and a "best if used by" date of "SEP 01 2027," distributed to Walmart stores across seven states including Arizona and Pennsylvania.
Consumers are advised to discard any matching cans immediately, as the FDA warns the product could cause "temporary" adverse health consequences, with lead exposure linked to kidney damage and neurological issues.
This marks at least the second time Pacific Coast Producers has recalled canned fruit cocktail over lead fears, following a similar alert for more than 62,000 cans in October last year, though no other products are currently impacted.
