Bayern Munich Coach Kompany in Hospital After Collapsing
Bayern said the coach is undergoing medical checks and will miss training duties while staff manage team operations.
On Friday, Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a reserve team training session, requiring immediate medical attention.
Kompany had battled a viral infection since last weekend, coaching Wednesday's Champions League draw against Arsenal despite illness before admitting, "I didn't listen to my body, and then at some point my body said: Stop now!"
Bayern sporting CEO Max Eberl prioritized recovery, stating, "Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support," while the club allows Kompany all time needed for full fitness.
With Kompany undergoing thorough hospital examinations, his coaching staff will manage all training and match-related operations during the interim period while he remains under medical care.
The Bundesliga leaders face a quick turnaround, traveling to Freiburg on Sunday at Europa-Park Stadion as Bayern prepares for an extended period without their head coach.
Bayern Munich II were due to face Vilzing in the Regionalliga, but after Vincent Kompany collapsed, it has been agreed to postpone the match. This is because many are in shock over the incident.
