At Least 4,000 Coca-Cola Sodas Distributed Across Texas Recalled Due to Possible Metal Contamination

More than 4,000 cans of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola, and Sprite were recalled in Texas over metal contamination posing health risks, the FDA said.

  • On Oct. 20, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration classified the recall initiated Oct. 3 by Coca‑Cola Southwest Beverages, LLC as Class II, covering select Coca‑Cola Zero Sugar, Coca‑Cola, and Sprite cans.
  • Health authorities flagged the recall due to possible metal fragments in canned sodas, which the U.S. Food & Drug Administration warns could cause internal injury despite no reported cases.
  • Inventory records show more than 4,000 units recalled in Texas, including Coca‑Cola Zero Sugar 1,115, Coca‑Cola 2,322, Sprite 791 units with product codes 49000042559, 49000058499, 49000012781, 49000058468, 49000028928, 49000058482.
  • As of Oct. 10, retailers had removed all affected products and consumers who purchased the recalled products are advised to discard or return them for a refund, a Coca‑Cola spokesperson said.
  • The recalled cans were distributed only in Texas, including McAllen/Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio, and this is Coca‑Cola Southwest Beverages, LLC's first recall this year, the FDA said.
