Germany's most likely future farm minister drops candidacy

The President of the Bavarian Farmers' Association, Felßner, no longer wants to become Minister of State Economics.

Bavaria's farmers' president Günther Felßner was to become Agriculture Minister in the new Federal Cabinet. However, after protests, at last also in his farm, he withdraws from the race. CSU boss Markus Söder regrets, but respects the decision.

Between two petitions and protests, opposition to Felßner's candidacy has grown in recent weeks.

For months it has been considered certain that Günther Felßner will become the new Minister of Agriculture. Protests will be loud. Too loud for the CSU man: he will spontaneously resign. Replacement could already be ready.

Bavaria's farmers' president Günther Felßner is not available for a ministerial office in the next federal cabinet. After a protest action by activists on his farm, he announces his withdrawal. His wife was afraid for life and limb. The protesters would do it that way again.

He was the favourite of CSU boss Söder for the post of Federal Minister of Economic Affairs. However, the Bavarian farmer president Felßner no longer wants: the reason is protests by environmentalists - also on Felßner's farm.
