FALL RIVER, JUL 9 – Marcel Riley built a sensory playground for his daughter and is pushing for Fall River’s first public sensory-friendly park to serve hundreds of children with developmental needs.
- LJ Wilde, a mechanical engineer in Logan, Utah, runs a full-time operation producing specialized hiking chairs for children with disabilities.
- Wilde developed the hiking chair after his daughter Luci received a diagnosis of an uncommon genetic condition, confronting the family with the difficult choice between keeping her home or limiting their outdoor adventures.
- Wilde developed about seven chair models, with Luci as the test pilot, using 100 percent Utah-sourced materials, to help children experience the outdoors.
- Wilde’s specially designed hiking wheelchairs have enabled over 1,200 children and their families in 23 countries to enjoy outdoor experiences, and he shared that his daughter recently expressed how grateful she is to have the chairs.
- Wilde’s work enables greater accessibility and joy outdoors for many with barriers and reflects a growing community effort to create inclusive spaces.
