2028 Olympic Qualifiers: NFF Names Eguavoen Interim Super Falcons Coach
The NFF said Eguavoen will lead the team temporarily as Nigeria begins a four-round path to the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
The Nigeria Football Federation appointed former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen as interim manager of the Super Falcons, tasking him with leading the squad through Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying.
Seeking a permanent solution, the NFF installed Eguavoen on a temporary basis while continuing the search for a substantive head coach to prepare the team for qualifying fixtures against Comoros.
Christopher Danjuma, who guided the Falconets at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, joins as assistant coach alongside former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf and goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa.
The Super Falcons open their qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both legs scheduled for October 9 and 13, 2026, at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
To secure one of Africa's two available places at the 2028 Olympics, Nigeria must navigate four rounds of knockout ties, with the final qualifying stage concluding in late 2027.
