Cops raid CFMEU headquarters
On Wednesday, police raided the CFMEU headquarters in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, while Taskforce Hawk detectives executed multiple raids in Victoria, resulting in three arrests in a cross-border corruption investigation.
The cross-border operation involves Queensland and Victorian detectives investigating allegations that union officials were corrupted, revealing how efforts to uncover crime in the Construction Industry have become a borderless effort.
According to search warrants, authorities allege officials sought to corrupt a member of a registered trade union; detectives investigated allegations of secret commissions, fraud, and drug trafficking at the union.
A CFMEU spokesperson stated the union "has been made aware of a police investigation this morning and will cooperate fully," with suspected offending allegedly occurring in Queensland and NSW.
The Queensland commission of inquiry into the CFMEU is due to resume next month, with these raids expected to inform that ongoing inquiry and the coming Victorian royal commission.
