The new federal government is launching the extension of the rental price brake until 2029. Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig wanted an extension to further buildings – but SPD and Union could not agree on this. Now she is relying on Parliament.

The rental price brake would expire at the end of the year. For Justice Minister Hubig, there is a reason to hurry. In order for her draft law to pass the cabinet quickly today, the Social Democrat refrains from extending the instrument to apartments built between 2014 and 2019.

The rental price brake should protect against too much rising rents. Now it should go into the extension – and the criticism is not waiting for it.
