Everton Forward Sherif Fined for Breaching FA Betting Rules
An independent commission said Sherif admitted responsibility and showed remorse after the 20-year-old placed 61 bets over 15 months.
On Thursday, the Football Association fined Everton forward Martin Sherif £5,000 for breaching betting regulations by causing, permitting, or enabling 61 bets on soccer matches between November 2024 and February 2026.
Sherif maintained in his defense that he did not personally place the wagers, though he admitted the bets, totaling nearly £2,000, originated from accounts in his name.
An independent regulatory commission imposed the fine but declined to issue a ban, citing Sherif's cooperation, early admission of guilt following August charges, and what it described as his "genuine remorse."
The 20-year-old, who has yet to make a senior appearance for Everton, previously spent time on loan at Rotherham United and Port Vale; he was born in Liberia but represents the Netherlands at youth level.
Sherif has returned to training with Everton's Under-21s while the club sits seventh in the Premier League table, facing Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.
