Everton Beats Newcastle for the Second Time in Four Days as Boos Ring Out at St. James’ Park
Barry’s fourth goal of the season lifted Everton into seventh as Newcastle’s late red card and missed chances sealed a second straight home defeat.
On Monday, Everton defeated Newcastle 1-0 at St James' Park in the English Premier League, lifting the Toffees to seventh place after nine rounds.
This result completed a four-day double over the Magpies, following Everton's 3-1 victory in the English League Cup last Thursday. The team had previously lost to Chelsea and Arsenal in consecutive league matches.
Striker Thierno Barry broke the deadlock in the 49th minute after Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek fumbled a shot from Tyrique George. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford later repelled a late attempt from substitute Yoane Wissa to secure the victory.
Newcastle's evening worsened when substitute Jacob Ramsey received two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving the hosts with 10 men. The team remains 13th in the standings after suffering a fourth loss in five games.
Newcastle will travel to face Fulham on Saturday, November 7, while Everton prepares to host Coventry on Friday, November 6. The Magpies currently sit two points above Fulham in the standings.
