Evacuation Alert for East Kootenay Wildfire, Brunswick Creek Fire Grows: Officials – Energeticcity.ca
A 100-hectare wildfire triggered the alert as crews battled dry conditions and strong winds, officials said.
On Saturday, July 11, the Regional District of East Kootenay issued an evacuation alert for 72 properties near Premier Lake after the Lussier River fire grew to 100 hectares.
RDEK Information Officer Loree Duczek said officials issued the alert due to dry conditions and limited access, with only one road in and out of the area.
The Regional Emergency Operations Centre has opened to assist residents, and the alert area extends approximately six kilometres north and 2.5 kilometres west of Premier Lake.
This notice follows alerts near Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon, as the Wildfire Service reports one of two fires in that region has grown since Friday.
Wildfires are flight-restricted areas, and the Wildfire Service warns violations can result in fines of up to $25,000 and up to 18 months in prison.
