UPDATE: Wildfire Evacuation Alert Continues for Beaton, Incomappleux River Properties
BC Wildfire Service says the lightning-caused blaze has grown to 154 hectares and remains out of control in steep, forested terrain.
- Five properties near Galena Bay and Beaton are on evacuation alert as The Johnson Creek wildfire grows to 154 hectares near the Incomappleux River. The City of Revelstoke issued the alert Aug 9.
- Identified three weeks ago on July 19, the lightning-caused blaze has remained out of control while Wildfire Service crews struggle to contain flames in difficult, sloped, and forested terrain.
- The evacuation alert encompasses five properties on Fish River Road and Incomappleux River Forest Service Road; Beaton is about 11 kilometres northeast of Galena Bay, where dozens of people reside.
- At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 11, The City of Revelstoke advised the evacuation alert remains in effect for the five properties with no changes. Emergency officials continue monitoring the situation.
- The next update is slated for Wednesday, Aug 12, and Residents within the alert area should remain prepared to leave on short notice.
