The European Union has condemned the passage of a Russia-style "foreign-agents" law by the Republika Srpska.

On Monday evening, Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik signed decrees promulgating four laws adopted at a special session of the Republika Srpska National Assembly, which prevent the operation of the Court and Prosecutor's Office of BiH, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) of BiH on the territory of that entity. The Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) partners and SafeJournalists Network (SJN) strongly condemn the adoption of legislation in the Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina which will establish a "special registry” of NGOs, many of which are independent media. The new draft law provides for criminal liability for refusing to register as a “foreign agent”, because so far many organizations have preferred to avoid registration and incur minor punishment.
