Erika Kirk Criticizes Potential 2029 Trial Date for Charlie Kirk’s Accused Assassin
Defense lawyers say they need more time to prepare a capital case, while prosecutors propose a 17-week trial starting Jan. 31, 2028.
Erika Kirk asked Judge Tony Graf to reject Tyler Robinson’s defense proposal for a third-quarter 2029 trial and sought the earliest practical date in 2027.
Kirk’s attorneys called the proposed schedule “grossly out of line” and said delays would increase the emotional burden on the family.
Robinson’s defense said it needed time to review evidence, file motions, and prepare for the case, while warning that an early trial date could jeopardize his constitutional rights.
Prosecutors proposed beginning the trial on January 31, 2028, and Judge Graf was scheduled to consider the date at a Friday hearing.
