Ericsson to Export India-Made Antennas to Europe; India Has Competitive Edge for 6G: Executive
Ericsson said 15,000 antennas and 25 million components have been produced in India since July 2025 as it expands toward 6G-ready networks.
On Wednesday, Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson announced it will export India-made antennas to Europe, a move that strengthens the company's global manufacturing footprint. Andres Vicente, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area South East Asia, Oceania, and India, Ericsson, confirmed the expansion at the India Mobile Congress 2026.
Ericsson established local manufacturing in India in 1994, building on a 123-year history in the country. Today, the company produces all 4G and 5G radios used domestically, positioning it as a regional manufacturing leader.
Citing 5G adoption figures, Vicente noted that India's mid-band coverage reaches 95 per cent of the population, with 430 million subscriptions comprising 35 per cent of total subscriptions. "India is the country with the highest usage in the world per customer," he said.
Ericsson hit a milestone producing more than 15,000 antennas and 25 million components since July 2025. Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, Ericsson, noted this expansion strengthens both local customer service and India's contribution to global operations.
India holds a competitive advantage for 6G development because the difficult part—setting the right network architecture—has already been completed. This foundation positions the nation to evolve toward high-performing, AI-ready networks for future generations.
