Erdogan: Mecca defence pact not aimed at Iran or Israel
On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan is not directed against Iran, Israel, or any third country.
Signed in August, the pact stipulates an armed attack against any member constitutes an attack on all three, with Turkey prepared to provide intelligence, logistics, or ammunition support upon request.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed Saudi forces conducted 1,018 airstrikes and missile attacks during the escalation, while Saudi officials confirmed intercepting ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh and other cities.
Following continued targeting of Taif and Yanbu on Thursday, Gen. Turki Al-Maliki vowed that "escalations and violations by the terrorist Houthi militia will be dealt with firmly."
Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus suggested the alliance could eventually expand to include other nations like Iran to ensure security for the broader Islamic world.
