Plans for gas drilling under the Wadden Sea near Ternaard in Friesland have been permanently cancelled. The government has reached an agreement with NAM, the gas company, Energy Minister Sophie Hermans announced Friday at the Wierum village hall.
Friends of the Earth Netherlands (Milieudefensie) is pleased that NAM will definitively not extract gas beneath the Wadden Sea near Ternaard in Friesland. The organization calls it a "devastating gas extraction project" and sees the cancellation as proof that campaigning works.
