Entire B.C. Village Ordered to Evacuate Due to Encroaching Wildfire
Crews are battling aggressive fire growth as officials say 196 properties are under evacuation order and 203 are on alert across the Big Bar complex.
On Friday, July 24, 2026, the Village of Clinton issued an evacuation order for nearly 600 residents citing an 'immediate threat to life safety' from the Pear Lake and Fiftynine Creek wildfires.
The Big Bar Complex, which includes the Pear Lake, Fiftynine Creek, and French Bar Creek wildfires, burns around 35,000 hectares and remains out of control, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.
Kamloops Search and Rescue members deployed to assist with evacuations on Friday as officials closed a nine-kilometre section of Highway 97 between Clinton Cemetery Road and Mound Road.
Support for evacuees is available at the Emergency Support Services centre in Kamloops, while officials confirm at least 20 properties have suffered structure loss from the fires.
With firefighters facing 'hot, dry conditions' and challenging terrain, BC Wildfire information officer Mikhail Elsay warned 'we don't see any reprieve in the near future' as a cold front promises stronger winds instead of rain.
