France: National Assembly Votes in Favour of "the Right to Help to Die"

The National Assembly approved at first reading yesterday the creation of a "right to help die".

After a hundred hours of debate, the text was voted by 305 Members against 199. The development of palliative care was adopted by an animite.

In a solemn vote, MEPs approved two texts on end-of-life in the first instance on 27 May. The first, on the development of palliative care, had little debate and was adopted unanimously, and the second, opening up an unprecedented right on aid to die, had been debated at length by Members.

On Tuesday, MEPs unanimously adopted the first text on palliative care, while the second text on assisted dying received 305 votes in favour and 199 against. - End of life: the texts on palliative care and assisted dying adopted by the National Assembly (Policy).
