Sanjay Raut Writes to Shah, Seeks ED Probe Into Jarange's Audio Clip on 'Rs 500 Crore' Payout
Raut says the allegation needs a money-laundering probe after an audio clip claimed the BJP routed Rs 500 crore through Shrikant Shinde.
On Monday, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding a probe by Maharashtra Police and the Enforcement Directorate into an alleged Rs 500-crore transaction involving Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his son, MP Shrikant Shinde.
The controversy emerged on Tuesday, October 20, after Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange played an audio clip alleging the BJP provided Rs 500 crore to Shinde to suppress the Maratha reservation movement ahead of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Raut compared this to the case against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, who faced action over alleged Rs 100-crore extortion demands, arguing the audio clip provided by Jarange constitutes more serious evidence than initial claims against Deshmukh.
Both Jarange and Shrikant Shinde have denied receiving any money; describing the allegations as serious, Raut demanded an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, urging Shah to direct the Enforcement Directorate to take action.
Questioning the destination of the funds, Raut asked where the money disappeared if it did not reach Manoj Jarange Patil, demanding an investigation into the source and movement of the alleged funds.
