"East/West Batik and Beyond" highlights Chinese women’s traditional arts and labor

Meticulous white lines etch out figures of birds, fish and butterflies on a deep, almost navy blue. The fabric, as wide as a person’s wing span, is draped over a wire at Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art. There are dozens more works on display, with varying motifs and designs, all featuring the same intricate white drawings on deep blue cotton.
