Pentecost night in northern Italy: ten earthquakes in less than an hour, with an earthquake near Merano. Random or warning sign?


On Sunday evening, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 struck in South Tyrol (northern Italy). According to the Austrian Seismological Service (GeoSphere Austria), the tremors were strongly felt in the epicentral area northwest of Merano at 9:17 p.m. Residents reported "the clinking of glasses and rumbling from the ground," according to a press release. No damage to buildings was reported at this time, nor was it expected at this magnitude.
Excitement in the Merano area – and many calls from concerned citizens in the state emergency call center: At 9:17 p.m. on Pentecost Sunday there was an earthquake at Parcines – at a depth of 16 kilometres. With a magnitude of 3.3, thank God it was only a slight quake.
