GOP’s Alme wins Montana Senate race
Kurt Alme held a 12-point lead as most precincts were still reporting, with independent Seth Bodnar trailing after outraising him by nearly $2 million.
- Republican Kurt Alme is projected to win Montana's U.S. Senate election, according to Decision Desk HQ, securing the seat in the state's first open contest in five decades.
- After incumbent Republican Sen. Steve Daines withdrew in March, the race underwent a significant shakeup that cleared a path for Alme, a former U.S. attorney for the District of Montana.
- With 31 percent of precincts reporting, Alme held 47 percent of the vote, while independent Seth Bodnar trailed with 39 percent; Democrat Alani Bankhead collected 12 percent and Libertarian Kyle Austin 2 percent.
- Bodnar conceded shortly before midnight, saying that while losing "stings," his campaign proved an independent can compete with the two major parties. Alme claimed victory shortly after 11:30 p.m.
- This result marks the second time in four years a Democrat finished third behind an independent in a Montana federal election. The state maintains an all-Republican congressional delegation since 2025 following former Sen. Jon Tester's defeat.
