Dump truck driver can’t avoid hitting a man lying on N.J. road

A man who was already lying in the road was hit by a dump truck early Monday in Jackson and pronounced dead, authorities said. The truck driver swerved and tried to avoid hitting what he thought was debris on South Hope Chapel Road at about 2:30 a.m. but then realized what he hit was a man, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
