Alleged Cyberbullying: Sowore To Continue Defence As DSS Rules Out Long Adjournment
The DSS says it is ready for the defence to continue after reports it may seek a long adjournment for Sowore’s campaign.
- On Monday, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned the cyberbullying trial of African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore to October 2, 2026, for continuation of his defence.
- The DSS is prosecuting Sowore over August 2025 posts on X and Facebook, where he described President Bola Tinubu as a "criminal" and accused him of lying about corruption levels.
- Defence counsel Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika noted the absence of a subpoenaed DSS witness, despite a prior understanding with Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi that an agency representative would attend.
- Olumide-Fusika cited media reports suggesting the DSS sought a long adjournment for the election; prosecuting counsel Akinlolu Kehinde denied the reports, urging the court to ignore them.
- Justice Umar rejected the request to foreclose the defence, granting Sowore another opportunity to produce the subpoenaed witness when proceedings resume on October 2, 2026.
