Ukrainian drones reach deep inside Russia as battle for key city rages on

  • On Tuesday, Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant about 1,300 kilometers inside Russia, causing an explosion that partly collapsed its water treatment facility.
  • Ukraine has deliberately targeted manufacturing plants, oil refineries and logistics hubs to disrupt Russia's war effort nearly four years after the invasion, while fierce fighting continues over Pokrovsk, Donetsk region in recent months.
  • Explosions were also reported in the Nizhny Novgorod region, some 800 kilometers away, while Ukraine's air force said Russia fired seven missiles and 130 strike and decoy drones overnight.
  • Russian officials said both drones were shot down, reported no casualties, and described the facility as operating normally, while local reports of the explosion were not independently confirmed.
  • Russia also bombarded southeastern Ukraine overnight, killing one person and injuring 11, while explosions occurred at an oil refinery in Nizhny Novgorod, 800 kilometers from Ukraine.
