Man Robbed At Gunpoint In NYC Carjacking, 4 Suspects At Large

Four men carjacked a cab at gunpoint after a denied ride request; the stolen vehicle was later recovered in Newark, police said.

  • On Monday, March 23, four men carjacked a 51-year-old cab driver at gunpoint in front of 50 Second Ave in the East Village, forcing him from the vehicle before fleeing in his car, police said.
  • The group initially approached the victim asking for a ride to a "specific location." When the driver denied the request, one suspect brandished a firearm and forced him out of the car.
  • Police released surveillance images on Tuesday showing three suspects wearing black sweatshirts, dark pants, and black sneakers, while the fourth wore a light-colored sweatshirt, black jacket, and carried a bookbag.
  • Using a tracking device, police located the stolen vehicle in Newark, New Jersey. The driver sustained no injuries, and no arrests have been made as of today.
  • The NYPD is requesting public assistance to identify the four suspects. Anyone with information should contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS .
