Speeding drink-driver jailed for killing teenager who texted 'I may not survive' minutes before Perthshire crash
Patrick admitted driving while impaired by alcohol and at grossly excessive speeds before the crash that killed Erin Slane and injured another passenger.
On Wednesday, Judge Lord Harrower sentenced Kyle Patrick to eight years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow for a fatal September 1, 2024, drink-driving crash in Perthshire that killed 19-year-old passenger Erin Slane.
Patrick admitted driving at "grossly excessive speeds" while impaired by alcohol on September 1, 2024, near Gowrie Farm in Perthshire. He lost control of the vehicle, which rolled down an embankment, killing Slane and injuring passenger Keira Jones.
During the journey, Slane messaged friends, "I may not survive tonight." Investigators found Patrick hit speeds of up to 119 miles per hour on the B9099 Luncarty to Stanley Road before the collision.
The court disqualified Patrick from driving for 10 years after his release. Judge Lord Harrower stated there was "no alternative to a significant custodial sentence" for the prolonged dangerous driving.
Defending counsel Tony Lenehan stated Patrick feels the "true weight of what he caused," while the judge emphasized the "terrible devastation" inflicted upon Slane's family, who were preparing for her university start.
