15 Children, 1 Adult Rescued After Ride Gets Stuck at Adventureland Amusement Park on Long Island
Firefighters and police used a cherry picker and ladder trucks to lower 15 riders, including children, after a mechanical breakdown, officials said.
On Friday evening, firefighters and Suffolk County Police rescued 16 people, including 15 children and one adult, from the Wave Twister ride at Adventureland Amusement Park in East Farmingdale. The rescue operation lasted three hours.
The Wave Twister, Adventureland's newest attraction opened in March, stalled about 25 feet off the ground. The cause remains unknown, but the park closed the ride until further notice for consultant assessment.
Among the rescued were a 5-year-old with a 40-year-old parent and children aged 8 to 12. Suffolk County Police reported no injuries during the incident.
Adventureland released a statement emphasizing its 'proud record of safety' spanning more than 60 years and said it is working with ride consultants to fully assess what happened. The ride will remain closed pending review.
Part of a $10 million Legacy Corner redevelopment project in East Farmingdale, the Wave Twister remains under review. Officials expected to release more information at a press conference on Saturday.
