Door opens for Seahawks’ Super Bowl MVP to become free agent
- On Tuesday, March 3, 2026 the Seattle Seahawks declined to place a franchise or transition tag on Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, per NFL insider Peter Schrager.
- ESPN reported Seattle's reluctance stemmed from roster priorities and the high cost of tagging a running back, including a $14.293 million franchise hit, while Zach Charbonnet's ACL increased Walker's workload and leverage.
- Walker produced strong 2025 regular-season numbers including 221 carries for 1,027 rushing yards, five rushing TDs, and 31 catches for 282 receiving yards.
- With the tag forgone, Seattle no longer holds one-year control and faces open-market competition as Walker becomes an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins March 11, with legal tampering opening March 9.
- Seattle has about $59 million in cap space and could still re-sign Walker, who if signed elsewhere, would be only the fourth reigning Super Bowl MVP not to return, per reports.
